About the event
Tarragó’s daughter
Salomé Sandoval will perform: A retrospective of the life of Catalan Vihuelist and Classical Guitarist Renata Tarragó, the daughter of Graciano Tarragó, who was himself a student of Miguel Llobet. Not to be confused with 19th century Valencian composer Francisco Tarrega, Renata was the first woman to record Joaquin Rodrigo’s Aranjuez Concerto and often collaborated with soprano Victoria de los Angeles. A virtuoso performer and prolific recording artist (including her dad’s arrangements), she played her first concert at age 14. In addition to preserving Spanish Classical Guitar solos and songs, her virtuosity was recorded in the 20th Century Fox motion picture’s soundtrack “Deadfall”’ by John Barry. Salomé Sandoval will perform solos for Vihuela and Classical Guitar, as well as songs, in which she will sing and accompany herself, while biographical pictures and anecdotes will simultaneously be displayed onto a screen.
